RSM Woods Represents Corps & Caterham at Field of Remembrance

Her Majesty The Queen opened the 97th Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday this week. In attendance was Sixth Form pupil RSM Woods, representing Corps, Caterham School regiment and CCF cadets countrywide. Of the 50,000 CCF cadets in the UK, only one, RSM Woods, was chosen to represent the entire nationwide movement.

The annual event, which marks the start of the Remembrance commemorations across the UK, has been held every year since 1928, when the Poppy Factory brought a tray of poppies and a collecting tin to the grounds of St Margaret’s Church. Only a handful of poppies were planted around a single cross, but it began a tradition that has grown over the decades, and now a sea of scarlet poppies covers St Margaret’s churchyard in the Abbey grounds each November.

RSM Woods gained a mention in the PWRR regimental newsletter article on the event: “Whilst there the Regimental Secretary and Deputy Regimental Secretary met the Cadet RSM from Caterham School, whose turnout and bearing would have been a credit to any of our battalions.”
