Saluting our Sisters – Black History Month

Saluting our Sisters – Black History Month

This week marks the start of Black History Month. This week all pupils have heard from Mrs Seal (Diversity and Inclusion Co-ordinator) in assemblies about why we celebrate this important month, and she was delighted to be joined by Upper Sixth Form pupil Zandie. This year the theme is ‘Saluting our Sisters’ and focuses on black women and the work they have done to pave the way in the fields of ‘STEM’, ‘Women in Leadership’, ‘Sheroes’ and ‘Women in Business’. Pupils were introduced to a number of influential black women in assembly, such as Kanya King, Diane Abbott and Evelyn Dove. They were encouraged to discuss in tutor times their own lists of influential black women who would fall into these categories and why. Across the month we will be sharing a range of activities, quizzes and reading to highlight more women and their important work which has paved the way for future generations.
