Scholars’ Taster Evening

Scholars’ Taster Evening

On Tuesday evening, the enrichment tutors hosted the Scholars’ Society annual Parents’ Taster Evening. This year the theme for our scholars has been the Enlightenment. In homage to this, the evening kicked off with Mrs Hunter’s talk on the French playwright Molière, suitably complete with wine and nibbles. This was supported by a reading of a scene from Tartuffe given by Joshua G and Oli L from the Third Year. Following a musical interlude of Mozart’s Minuet in G Major, performed beautifully by Third Year scholars Eugenie C and Catherine Y, Dr Scott gave a talk on the poet Alexander Pope and in particular his poem ‘the Epistle to Dr. Arbuthnot’.

The second half of the evening saw a couple of talks on different aspects of Kant’s philosophy including his dinner party etiquette by Mrs Datta. These talks followed a super summary of the inaugural Fourth Year Scholars’ Trip to Florence given by George C, Namratha D, and Sophia PW. Catherine Y and Holly C provided the musical interlude for the second half, performing a piece called ‘Der Spiegel’ attributed to Mozart.
