Slice of Pye Showcase
Last week saw our first ever new writer’s scratch night. Named after our sixth form centre, Slice of Pye showcased extracts and short plays written by three Sixth Form Pupils: Narayan M, Lyla B and George M. With each writer’s voice present and distinguishable in their work, it was a delight to see them read aloud and staged by a group of talented performers who successfully brought the scenes to life. The plays were:
Afterquiet by Narayan M
In the years between the Olympics and the Pandemic, a young man connects with his aging Grandmother. This coming-of-age play looks at what it means to really see each other, and what we remember when the curtain falls.
Coffee Machine Coffee by Lyla B
Two patients. One Coffee Machine. And an unlikely friendship. Coffee Machine Coffee explores what connection means when we are at our most vulnerable, and how a chance encounter can help save a life.
Grains to Caramelise by George M
Nell and Rose have known each other forever, but when they meet a stranger on a night out, they walk away fundamentally changed. Two friends are driven into the unknown in this gripping new play.
Congratulations must go to Lyla who not only wrote a piece for the event but also directed and curated it all as well. This was a fantastic evening showcasing the creative talents of our pupils, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more from these writers in the future. Watch this space…!
