South Coast Exploration!

South Coast Exploration!

Just before half term over one hundred Fourth Year geographers travelled down to the south coast to spend a day investigating coastal processes as part of their GCSE course. With heavy rain all day in Caterham the mood on the bus was on the low side but proving that it never rains on a Caterham geography fieldtrip. The microclimate at Seven Sisters Country Park made us proud and we enjoyed a day of sunshine. Pupils spent the day comparing the beach characteristics of an unmanaged and managed beach at Cuckmere and Seaford collecting data that allowed them to analyse the role of longshore drift and erosional processes. They learnt how to use a range of fieldwork equipment whilst also applying various sampling techniques to their methodology. They worked successfully in their groups and enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream on the beach at the end of a hard day’s work.
