Stylish Recital from our vocalists

Our beautiful Wilberforce Hall was transformed into a cabaret setting ideal for our wonderful Recital of vocal music. The recital explored themes of Sacred Song, Parlour Songs and Opera, Nature and finally Folksong. Pupils from all year groups performed with elegance and style and our audience was treated to an array of beautiful pieces that demonstrated their control and passion.

Opening the concert were Rosa H and Namratha D who performed the recitative and aria ‘He Shall Feed His Flock’ from Handel’s ‘Messiah’. Closing the solo section, Sophia de la PG performed a characterful version of the traditional Irish song, ‘Cockles and Mussles’. Many of our performers sang in Italian- covering the early Opera arias of Giordani, Vivaldi and Bellini. Vocal ensembles also took part; our delightful Trio (Olivia B, Namratha D and Sophia PW), girls’ choir Vocalpoint and boys’ choir Close Harmony. They performed a selection of folksong; ‘Danny Boy’, Enya’s ‘Only Time’, ‘The Water Is Wide’ and the amazing version by Simon & Garfunkle of ‘Scarborough Fair’. The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of the sea shanty ‘The Wellerman’ where performers were joined by the audience in voice, but also with the pirate-esque clinking of glasses (sadly rum was unavailable!).

The Vocal Recital was a snapshot of the amazing breadth of our singing provision at the school. Complementing our Live Lounge and Musical Theatre Evening, the Vocal Recital allows for singers to perform songs that form part of the eclectic syllabus from both the ABRSM and Trinity that explores all types of music including Opera and folksong. A huge well done to all singers who took part.
