Third Place for Mark at Oxford German Network Olympiad
In March, Fourth Year pupil Mark U entered the Oxford German Network Olympiad, a national competition which this year explored the theme “80 Years Since the End of WWII” and its impact on Berliners. Entrants chose from a range of creative prompts, including writing a 300–400 word story in German from the perspective of a child or animal experiencing the war’s end.
Mark took an original and bold approach, writing a diary entry from the perspective of Helga, one of Joseph Goebbels’ children. His thoughtful and imaginative piece impressed the judges, and we are delighted to share that he has been awarded 3rd Prize and was highly commended.
This is a remarkable achievement—especially as Mark has only been learning German since the beginning of Third Year. Congratulations to him on this outstanding success.
The competition, run by Oxford University, is designed to encourage creativity and engagement with language, and we hope Mark’s success will inspire other pupils to explore similar opportunities in the future.
