Third Years Walk the Red Carpet

Tuesday saw the fifth annual Third Year Film Festival take over the Humphreys Theatre, showcasing the fantastic films made by the drama cohort over the last two terms. The morning started with the whole year group gathering in their finest outfits to walk the red carpet and enjoy a brunch reception in the PACE foyer. Pastries and pictures with the Selfie-Pod were the heroes of the hour, with everyone enjoying a sneak peek of the films they’d be watching via the wonderful posters made by the various pupil production companies. It was fantastic to see the efforts that so many of the year group had gone to; let’s just say the Drama department were jealously coveting many of the suits and dresses on show!

Then came the main event- the showing of the films! With thirteen films spanning three genres (horror, silent comedy and music videos) there was an eclectic mix that the whole audience could enjoy. Throughout the morning there was laughter, gasps, the odd yelp and a lot of applause for the incredible hard work that had been put into these short films. Many of them wouldn’t feel out of place at an indie film festival, and we were so proud of the production companies that worked with tenacity and creativity to make such entertaining spectacles. 

Half way through the screenings the cohort split into groups and were sent on a scavenger hunt around the school site, recreating famous movie posters. There were some fantastic entries, but the winning group were group 13 whose recreations particularly impressed the judges!

Then came the viewing of the final six films and finally the adjudication. Our wonderful judges, Mr Waite and Dr Brammeld, were once again tasked with the difficult job of deciding on the winners in several different categories. It was a tightly fought contest, but ultimately the winners were:

Best Continuity: Joe L for Fight for the Spotlight

Best Editing: Arman G for The Bloody Camera

Best Score: Vivian W and Pearl Z for Seeker

Best Director: Aarush P for The Therapist

Best Performer: Isla T for A Place in this World (Butterfly Rhythms)

Best Horror: The Man Hunt

Best Silent Comedy: Wrong Book Day

Best Music Video: School’s Out for Summer

Best Film: Wrong Book Day

And finally the whole year group got to vote for their People’s Choice Award which was awarded to ‘The Man Hunt’

A huge congratulations to all the winners as well as all the production companies that worked so hard on their films. We were delighted with what you created and look forward to seeing your films at the real Oscars in a few years time!
