Through-School Choral Celebration
Our collective Prep and Senior music departments came together this week in two showcase concerts that featured choral and instrumental ensembles across the schools. These events were an opportunity for younger pupils to be inspired and for parents to see the musical development on offer at Caterham School.
The Choral Celebration, held at the beautiful St John’s Church in Caterham was a triumph; the first half featuring sacred choral pieces and the second, a huge range of secular music including songs from Musical Theatre, pop and jazz. From Handel to Sam Smith, Rutter to Take That- it was a wonderful reflection of pupils’ passion and interest in all kinds of vocal music. The choirs were accompanied by an amazing staff band and the evening ended with rousing massed performances of From Now On from The Greatest Showman and Fix You by Coldplay. With 180 pupils singing in glorious harmony, and cheers from our audience, the event was truly a memorable occasion. The concert was attended by The Vice-Chair of Tandridge, Councillor Claire Blackwell. All who attended were impressed by the breadth of choral singing through the whole school and every singer should be congratulated on the huge success. Choral singing from a young age offers a unique blend of joy, connection, and personal growth. Joining a choir introduces children to the beauty of harmony and the thrill of performing as part of a team. It nurtures discipline, boosts confidence, and enhances listening skills—all while promoting a strong sense of belonging. Through shared musical experiences, young singers not only develop their vocal ability and musicality but also form lasting friendships and learn the value of collaboration. The joy of creating something powerful together leaves a lasting impression that often inspires a lifelong love of music- and this joy was seen in abundance at our Choral Celebration. Kind donations from our audience were gratefully received by St John’s Church and will go towards their valuable projects such as their Accessibility Fund.
