U12 Lacrosse County Champions!

U12 Lacrosse County Champions!

What a spectacular way to round off the Lacrosse term. On a day filled with grit, skill, and nerves of steel, our U12’s travelled to St Catherine’s for the County Tournament and the U12A team returned home as County Champions!

The A team started the day with incredible momentum, dominating the group stages. Facing off against Putney, Guildford High School, St Catherine’s, and Claremont, the girls played with clinical precision, winning all their pool games convincingly.

The semi-final against GHS proved to be a true test of character. After taking an early 1-0 lead, GHS responded in the dying seconds, and the game was pushed into two periods of overtime. However, the girls remained composed under pressure, with Chloe C slotting in the winning goal to take us through to the final.

The final saw a rematch against the hosts, St Catherine’s. Despite having beaten them in the pool stage, the final was a different beast. Caterham found themselves 1-0 down early on, but the comeback was swift. Ella W found the back of the net to bring the scores level and Ellie C earned a crucial free position and, with absolute power and clinical placement, outwitted the goalkeeper to put Caterham ahead. The final minutes were a masterclass in game management. The team focused on maintaining possession, successfully holding their nerve until the final whistle sparked celebrations.

It wasn’t just the A team making waves; Caterham’s depth was on full display as the B, C, and D teams all took to the pitches with pride:

  • The B Team: Faced a particularly challenging pool but remained impressively resilient and steady. A special mention goes to Willow, who anchored the defence with a series of amazing saves.
  • The C Team: Played with immense spirit, finishing 2nd in their group. This saw them qualify for the Plate semi-final against GHS. Though they played their hearts out, their tournament journey ended there, but they can be incredibly proud of their progress.
  • The D Team: Showcased brilliant Lacrosse ability in a tough group. Most importantly, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience of their very first lacrosse tournament, showing great promise for the future.

As a coaching body, we are immensely proud of every single player. The girls have come so far, and to finish as County Champions and see such growth across all four teams is a testament to their hard work and team spirit.

Congratulations to all the players on a golden end to the season!
