Summer Adventures in Waterpolo and Netball

Lucy (Under 15) had the most incredible summer of sport, achieving fantastic success in both netball and waterpolo.

Lucy was selected to represent the Surrey Storm U15 team at the highly prestigious England Netball Performance Competition at the University of Wolverhampton back in August. All ten Superleague Netball franchises were represented at the competition, meaning that Lucy was able to test herself against the best players of her age in the country. The Surrey Storm team had an outstanding tournament, finishing as runners-up to Manchester Thunder.

Lucy has now been selected for the Surrey Storm South U17 Academy, which is a remarkable achievement.

Amongst of these netballing achievements, requiring huge commitment and dedication, Lucy has also found the time (and the talent!) to represent the England U19 Water Polo team, competing at the North Sea Cup the beginning of September.

We are very proud of Lucy and we are very excited for what her sporting future holds.

Lucy has written an account of her summer adventures in her own words here.

“Being selected to play for England was exciting but also nerve wracking. I knew some of the player in the other teams who were older and more experienced as it was an U19 competition. My main aim was to play well and to improve our team play. Winning the first game against Wales boosted our confidence and set us up well for the next two games. Ireland was our toughest match. I achieved my goal of scoring and also preventing the centre forward of shooting opportunities. Winning my first tournament for England was beyond my expectations. I can’t wait for the next game!”

“Having been to watch Surrey Storm, I never expected that I would be wearing their kit and playing for their U15 team. The training and selection process was tough lasting throughout the summer. Arriving at the England Netball Performance competition I was nervous, as was everyone else and it brought us all together. The atmosphere was amazing and we were all excited to see the TV cameras. We overcame our nerves after winning our first game, and started to really enjoy our game. Being in the Final was an extraordinary experience. Winning Silver was the high point of my netball to date. Roll on next season!”
