Surrey Schools Athletics Open Meet

Surrey Schools Athletics Open Meet

Despite the cancellation of the team athletic events for this term, several of our top athletes have continued to excel during individual competition. The athletes competed in the Surrey Schools Athletics Open meet which is a trial for the ESAA Track & Field Championships being held in Manchester after the school year ends. Competitors are aiming to not only win their events but meet the national entry standard in their event. If they achieve these standards, they will be invited by Surrey Schools to represent the county at the national level.

Megan S, Isla C and William O competed in the long jump, 100m and hurdles respectively. Megan recorded 4.06m in the long jump which placed her fifth overall, Isla ran the 100m in a time of 14.07 seconds to finish ninth and William ran 13.29 seconds in the hurdles which saw him finishing second.

Lilly W and William T finished first in their events, with Lilly winning with a high jump of 1.40m and William running the 200m in 25.5 seconds.

Ethan v H had a phenomenal day at the long jump, winning with a distance of 5.57m. This distance meets the entry standard for the National competition. He is currently 13th in the nation and will wait for confirmation of his invitation in the next few weeks. Good luck Ethan!

Estee N is another of our top athletes waiting for her invitation to the National competition. She competed in the 800m at the SSAA Open meet and her time of 2.17 minutes met the entry standard for the Track and Field Championships. Estee is currently 14th in the nation in her age division and is waiting for confirmation that she can compete in one of the coveted sixteen spots. Good luck Estee!

Congratulations to all our athletes for persevering through what has been a challenging term. We are looking forward to seeing all our athletes compete in the Junior and Inter Sports Day being held next Thursday.
