U18 Surrey County Lacrosse Success

U18 Surrey County Lacrosse Success

On Saturday 29 September 17 teams attended the U18 Surrey County Lacrosse Tournament on the Hill Pitches. It was a monumental day for the #laxcats – it was the first time ever that Caterham had four teams, 64 girls, representing at the Senior level. The County Tournament was set up in three separate sections – the 1st XII competed for the Cup, the 2nd XII competed for the Plate and the 3rd XII and 4th XII competed for the Bowl.

The 4th XII, in their debut tournament, qualified for the Bowl 5th place playoff after picking up their first ever win against a St Catherine’s Bramley side through the group stages. Excellent hustle and effort came from these girls in all seven matches played throughout the day. They represented Caterham Sport amazingly.

The 3rd XII fought through the group stages for a 3rd place finish, sending them through to the Bowl Semi-Final. In the Semi-Final, the girls met St Cats 3rd XII for the second time that day (previously lost) but this time defeated the 2nd seed, 2-1, to play for the Bowl Championship! In the Bowl Championship, the #laxcats played Guildford 3rd XII and fought hard until the end but unfortunately fell 1-4. A 2nd place for the Caterham 3rd XII in the bowl competition is the best ever finish and a fantastic achievement.

The 2nd XII also played hard through the group stages for a 3rd place finish to meet Guildford 3rd XII in the Plate Semi-Final. Another dominant win for the #laxcats, 3-1, to meet St Catherine’s Bramley 2nd XII in the Plate Final. A quick start for the #laxcats put them ahead, 2-0, which would eventually be the final score of the game. The 2nd XII were crowned Surrey County Winners! An unbelievable achievement for Caterham Lacrosse – The first Senior County Championship in over 5 years!

Finally, in the Cup Competitions, the 1st XII played 3 matches. They picked up two wins, and one, two goal loss, to put them 2nd in the County for the second year in a row! The 1st XII defeated Putney High 1st, 9-5 and St Catherine’s Bramley 1st, 4-3 for the second weekend in a row!

Four senior teams, three tournaments, two 2nd place finishes (Cup and Bowl) and one Plate County Championship for the 2nd XII marks a very successful day for the #laxcats and Caterham Sport. Thank you to all pupils, staff and parents who helped make this possible!
