1ST TEAM LACROSSE NATIONALS SECURE A TOP 8 FINISH!

After the much anticipated postponed National Schools, the Caterham 1st XII travelled away to Wycombe Abbey on Sunday 11 March. On the first day of competition, the girls flew through their group outscoring their opponents 38-3, to finish top in their section and head to the Championship bracket the next day. They were one of three schools to remain undefeated on day one of competitions.  Roberta racked up 13 goals, Lottie scored 7 goals, and Emily scored 6 goals on the first day of play. Outstanding play from Dani in goal and Elise in defence led the LaxCats to a phenomenal start of the tournament.

On day two of the competition, the weather, once again, did not cooperate and adjustments were made to the overall playing schedule. The Championship bracket went directly into the knock-out round. In the round of 16, Caterham faced a strong St Helen and St Katherine’s team however, completely dominated them with a score of 4-1. This win sent them through to the quarter finals against a very familiar St Catherine’s School. A very well executed game plan by St Catherine’s unfortunately sent them through to the semi-final. While the outcome of the game was not in Caterham’s favour, the girls left it all out on the pitch. The play and team spirit by the 1st XII was remarkable the entire weekend. This was truly a team effort with outstanding leadership on display by the Upper Sixth, relentless effort by the Lower Sixth and the courage and bravery by the Fifth Year. A top 8 finish in the Nation is a fantastic achievement for Caterham Lacrosse!

A huge thank you to the 10 Upper Sixth pupils who have dedicated so much to Caterham Lacrosse program, they have left some huge shoes to fill.
