Des mots français intraduisibles

Des mots français intraduisibles

Fascinating presentation last Tuesday in our French Society meeting by Emmaya S (Upper Sixth) who talked about “Des mots français intraduisibles”, or how to translate words or expressions that do not have an equivalent in English. Emmaya expertly analysed the challenge of trying to translate words or expressions that often reflect or even define some of the French culture. To get to a satisfactory translation, you need to consider the emotions and the expression of feelings they convey rather than their literal meaning, words like “sortable” or “dépaysement”.  Great engagement and discussions from the rest of the pupils. Emmaya was a true inspiration for the Francophiles in the group who are just starting on their journey of exploration of the French language.
