Poetry Recitation Competition 2020

Poetry Recitation Competition 2020

This year’s final of the Poetry Recitation Competition took place on the final Friday of last half term in Humphreys Theatre; all finalists performed at an impressively high standard to a small but enthusiastic socially distanced audience. The event was broadcast live online for parents to enjoy as well on Caterham English Instagram. Along with the audience, the judging panel of Mr Jones, Mr Salem and Miss Guttner thoroughly enjoyed every performance but ultimately were blown away by several outstanding and exceptional recitations: The winner this year was Sophie H (Fourth Year) with her outstanding recitation of ‘59’, Rosie B (First Year) came second with ‘Russian Doll’ and in third place was Rajan P (Second Year) with ‘Harriet Tubman’. Highly Commended were awarded to Adam R (Upper Sixth Form) with ‘If’, Meg P (Third Year) with ‘Darling’ and Annabella W (Fifth Year) with ‘Prayer before Birth’.

Huge congratulations and thanks to all of this year’s finalists, as well as those who reached the year heats too. The top three finalists can go through to the national competition, Poetry By Heart, which gives them the opportunity to compete prestigiously at a national level.

Well done one and all!
