U16 Boys Qualify for National Indoor Finals for First Time

Last week saw our U16 boys indoor side head to St Georges Weybridge for the South East Finals of the England Hockey School’s Super 6s Indoor competition. Earlier in the month the boys had already qualified through the Surrey round, finishing second and recording impressive wins over RGS Guildford, Cranleigh and Reeds. As the boys prepared for the South East Finals, they knew it would be a competitive field and ultimately a showdown with St Georges for a place in the National Finals loomed. After both sides defeated Hurstpierpoint it all came down to Caterham vs St Georges in the final game of the day. Due to a superior goal difference the boys knew that a draw would take them through. It was an assured start to the game, quickly taking a 2-0 lead which turned in to a 3-1 lead with eight minutes to go. St Georges were in the ascendancy and managed to claw back two crucial goals to make it 3-3. With one minute to go Caterham had to see the game out with one less player as a tough call led to a green card, but heroics once again from Caterham GK Alex S., saving a late penalty corner, meant that the clock ticked down and qualification was sealed for the National Finals for the first time for Caterham School.

This is a huge achievement of which everyone involved is very proud. Congratulations boys!
