The Wright Society
The Medical Society of Caterham School

Welcome to The Wright Society, the home of aspiring medics, dentists and vets at Caterham School. I am honoured to be Patron of The Wright Society.
For nearly two decades, I have had a very close relationship with the school as all three of my daughters passed through this amazing institution, and now I have the pleasure of being the school Medical Officer. Over a decade ago, but still fresh in my mind, my eldest daughter Hannah moved into the Sixth Form at Caterham with the dream of becoming a Doctor. I admired the way the Science Department nurtured and helped her – she could not have been in a better place to achieve her ambition. Hannah studied medicine at St Peter’s College Oxford, and has since worked as a Clinical Fellow to the Medical Director of the NHS and a Teaching Fellow at Imperial College in London. I am proud to say that she recently qualified as a GP, and is now working in Berkshire.
Caterham School has a long tradition of helping aspiring medics, no more so than during the last two and a half decades under Mr Quinton’s guidance as Head of Science and beyond. I know first-hand his passion for helping medics secure places at University as both undergraduates and via postgraduate routes. The formation of this Society is therefore a very exciting step forward in his aim to make Caterham School the top school in the country for anyone wanting to study medicine. We are also passionate about broadening the net and helping future medics, dentists and vets from our partner state schools, in particular Warlingham, Oxted and the LAE.
It has been a pleasure to work closely with Mr Quinton and see The Wright Society blossom and deliver on its promise to deliver the highest quality help and advice – so much so that in the last 3 years 100% of applicants (both from Caterham and our partner state schools) are currently studying medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. I am proud to be involved in helping our next generation of medics, dentists and vets to achieve their aspirations.

Holly Cook – Brighton and Sussex Medical School
My name is Holly, and I am currently in my third year at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and I am absolutely loving every moment! This year has been incredible as I’ve thrown myself into learning the clinical aspects of medicine during hospital placements and embraced every opportunity to grow and contribute. The past few years have been so rewarding and fulfilling, always learning about something interesting.
The Wright Society has been truly pivotal in my journey into medical school and beyond. It first introduced me to the world of medicine and led me to gaining two years of invaluable hospital work experience. It encouraged me to follow my dreams and I am deeply grateful for the support of Mr Quinton, without whom none of this would have been possible.
Justin Leung – Bristol Medical School
The Wright Society has been pivotal in helping me with my journey into medicine, helping me further my interests in the field. It also has been crucial in helping me develop the aptitude for studying medicine and preparing me with the realities of choosing this path. As a current medical student, I am incredibly grateful of the groundwork that TWS, Mr Quinton and Dr Wright has laid for this long but exciting journey.
Emily van As – Hull York Medical School
The Wright Society was incredibly supportive throughout my medical school application. Mr Quinton put an enormous amount of effort into organising activities that introduced us to medicine and provided invaluable guidance during the interview process. Dr Wright was also extremely helpful, offering first-hand insight into what it is really like to work as a doctor in the NHS. I am very grateful for all the support the Wright Society provided during my application.
Max Fogelman – St Andrews & Barts
TWS was fantastic at supporting me to get into medical school. Fostering me from curiosity and exploration all the way through to my first day at medical school and beyond. It was a privilege to be part of the formation of this society and I hope it goes on to inspire many more students in the future.
Katie Roberts – Edinburgh
I am currently in my second year at Edinburgh medical school – somewhere I can’t imagine I would be without the help of the Wright Society. Of course, the tremendous support I received throughout UCAT revision, med school applications and interview prep has been pivotal to where I am now. What has really stood out to me, however, were the skills I learnt which have helped considerably through my pre-clinical years, and amazing, inspirational people I have met through The Wright Society. It taught me to push myself to the best of my ability which has been incredibly important through my time in Edinburgh.
I am loving all aspects of uni, medical school really is an amazing community and it’s been wonderful meeting so many like-minded people. I would urge anyone who is considering applying to medicine to go for it, especially to Edinburgh (although I may be slightly biased). I truly believe it is one of the most spectacular cities in the UK.
