Our Purpose

Caterham School is one of the leading
co-educational schools in the country.

We are committed to creating a community in which all pupils are inspired and challenged to be the best they can be and in which outstanding pastoral care and wellbeing underpin excellent academic, co-curricular and sporting outcomes and experiences for all pupils. We believe that connection, sense of purpose and breadth of opportunity provide the foundation for success. We also appreciate the transformative potential of education for all pupils and, like our founders, believe in our responsibility to make a difference to the world around us.

We are a diverse and global community in which day and boarding pupils flourish alongside each other, and one in which pupils of all backgrounds and all interests feel they belong.

We believe in providing an education for life for all Caterhamians and we seek to ensure that the learning experience at our school blends the best of tradition with innovation, along with the exciting opportunities provided by emerging technologies. Learning how to learn and emotional intelligence are key facets of a Caterham education and provide essential skills for success. A truly excellent school is about more than academic achievement alone: it is also about developing a passion for learning, a capacity for independent and critical thinking, self-awareness and resilience, self-confidence without arrogance and genuine interests that extend beyond the confines of the classroom.

At Caterham School we intentionally develop the whole person, aiming to ensure that each pupil leaves here prepared for the challenges and opportunities of life beyond school, understanding their responsibilities towards others and having developed character and values that help them engage with their futures in a fulfilling and meaningful way. We want our pupils to be well equipped to engage positively with a rapidly changing world as accomplished problem solvers, innovators and optimists, confident in their ability to lead and serve with integrity and with a clear appreciation of and respect for the views and potential of others. In so doing we remain true to our founding Christian principles and values.
