German (Deutsch)
Wilkommen auf die Deutschseite!
In German, pupils follow a course of study to build skills leading up to the Edexcel IGCSE exam.
Pupils master a range of vocabulary and grammar structures using the Stimmt! and Hodder textbook course, as well as a host of online resources.
We also have a well-established pen-pal exchange with a partner school in Bavaria, which we visit in the summer (see trips).
Clubs:
German Club meets every Monday 4-5pm. Pupils in First to Third Year extend their cultural knowledge and have the chance to enter competitions, such as the Oxford German Network Olympiad and Stephen Spender Poetry Translation Prize.
Trips:
First & Second Years
Christmas trip to Cologne for Christmas markets.
Trip to Goethe Institute/BFI
Third to Fifth Year & Sixth Form
Partnership trip to Bavaria, where we are twinned with a Grammar School in Ansbach, near Nuremberg.
Pupils visit the local area, but also have the chance to experience life as a pupil in a German school. Imagine sitting in English lessons and finding out how it is taught as a foreign language!
Sixth Form
Cultural trip to Berlin. Pupils explore Berlin architecture and understand more about the Berlin Wall and the East-West divide and modern politics in Berlin as part of the A Level course.
There are also regular opportunities to explore German culture in London, through art exhibitions and cinema or theatre trips.
