Musical Theatre & Contemporary Music

Musical Theatre & Contemporary Music

We are proud that at Caterham School all genres of music are promoted and performed. Pupils are encouraged to perform their own compositions in whatever style they wish- from folk to acoustic covers. Film music, world music, musical fusions and electronic music are all explored through themed concerts and one-off performances. We aim for pupils to be able to genuinely express themselves through music and support any styles they wish to explore.

Musical Theatre

Our department supports all aspects of musical theatre in the following ways:

– Full-scale musicals (Grease 2016, Les Miserables 2015, Joseph & The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat 2013, Hairspray 2012)

– Trinity College Musical Theatre Exams; held on-site and led by Mr Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts, professional opera performer and Caterham School VMT

– Workshops led by current West End performers

– Technical theatre club

– Collaborations with the Dance Department and 1-2-1 coaching with our Head of Dance
