The Classical Society (every other Monday lunchtime)

The Classical Society meets every other Monday at 1315 hrs in L2. The Society will usually hear a paper from a Sixth Form classicist, staff member or visiting speaker before it is opened up to the floor for questions and debate. All keen classicists in the Fifth Year and above are warmly invited to join us. Please see Mrs Hunter for lunch passes and further information.

 

Fifth Year Greek Prose Composition (Friday lunchtime)

Fifth Year Greek Prose Composition extends Fifth Year Grecians’ knowledge of the language to enable them to write fluent Attic Greek prose of their own as well as reinforcing the rudiments of accidence and syntax. Membership is by invitation only and any queries should be addressed to Mr Owen.

 

Upper Sixth Latin Prose Composition (Thu after school)

Upper Sixth Latin Prose Composition is an extension class for senior classicists. It develops pupils’ knowledge of the language, enabling them to compose continuous passages of Latin prose and reinforcing the rudiments of accidence and syntax. Membership is by invitation only and any queries should be addressed to Mr Waite.

 

Second Year Greek Club (x3 lunchtimes tbc)

Second Year Greek Club is an ab initio course in Ancient Greek for Second Year Latinists. It covers the rudiments of the language and success in the end-of-year assessment allows pupils to choose Greek as an on-timetable option in Third Year and beyond. It is run two or three times per week on different lunchtimes, and each pupil picks one day to attend. Membership is by invitation only and any queries should be addressed to Mr Waite.

 

Upper Sixth Latin Enrichment (Wednesday after school)

Enrichment classes in Latin are run for Upper Sixth Form classicists on Wednesday between 1600 hrs and 1715 hrs. Pupils will read extensive passages from Latin prose and verse authors, debate topics on ancient history, literature and philosophy and be stretched in all areas of their classical knowledge. It is tailored primarily for those intending to read Classics or related subjects at Oxbridge, and so past papers and practice interviews form a significant part of the course. Membership is by invitation only and any queries should be addressed to Mr Owen.

 

Upper Sixth Greek Enrichment (Tuesday after school)

Enrichment classes in Greek are run for Upper Sixth Form classicists on Tuesdays between 1615 hrs and 1730 hrs. Pupils will read extensive passages from Greek prose and verse authors, debate topics on ancient history, literature and philosophy and be stretched in all areas of their classical knowledge. It is tailored primarily for those intending to read Classics or related subjects at Oxbridge, and so past papers and practice interviews form a significant part of the course. Membership is by invitation only and any queries should be addressed to Mr Waite.
