Individual music lessons for singing and all instruments are offered by Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs) who are self employed, professional musicians.  Music lessons require commitment, dedication and regular practice. There is an expectation to participate in the various ensembles, orchestras and choirs and to perform in concerts.

The Music Department will contact you if we cannot provide a teacher for the requested lessons. In some instances there may be a waiting list in which case we will notify you as soon as possible.

Music lesson charges vary between VMTs, but as a guide, lessons cost in the region of £30 per 40 minute lesson.

Important information

  • Please be aware that your contact details will be shared with our VMTs who will be in contact with you directly to arrange lessons.
  • Reports are written annually. The Director/Head of Instrumental Music sees all reports written by the VMTs and your submission of this form confirms your agreement to this.
  • Pupils are generally withdrawn from their normal timetabled academic lessons on a rotational basis. Sixth Form pupils and any pupils receiving tuition on more than one instrument will have their lessons during free periods, lunchtimes or before/after school subject to availability. These fixed lesson slots are limited and therefore cannot be offered to pupils unless they meet these criteria.
  • Instrument hire can be arranged subject to availability of a suitable instrument and is generally charged at a flat rate of £35 per term. There are separate terms and conditions regarding the hire of school instruments that will be sent to you at a later date.
